Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) - Job Description
The Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) plays a vital role as the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a professional, welcoming, and supportive environment. The PSR I is responsible for skillfully drawing blood samples and preparing them for laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols. This role requires precision, care, and adherence to procedures to ensure quality outcomes. By fostering trust and maintaining clear communication, the PSR I helps patients feel at ease during their visit.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Interaction: Serve as the face of the organization by creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence. Explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients.
Specimen Collection: Perform blood draws (phlebotomy) with accuracy, safety, and efficiency, including handling pediatric and geriatric patients.
Specimen Preparation: Properly prepare and process collected samples for laboratory testing in adherence to guidelines.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and records in line with organizational standards.
Environment Management: Ensure a safe, clean, and professional workspace for patients and colleagues.
Collaboration: Work under the direction of the area supervisor while collaborating with team members to meet operational goals.
Adaptability: Be available for variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, on-call duties, and overtime as needed.
Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Medical training preferred (e.g., medical assistant or paramedic training).
Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in some states (e.g., California, Nevada, and Washington).
Experience:
Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience; one or more years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
Previous experience in customer service within a retail or service setting is an asset.
Proficient keyboard and data entry skills are essential.
Skills:
Exceptional phlebotomy skills, including for pediatric and geriatric patients.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Commitment to confidentiality and accuracy in handling patient information.
