Job Title: Monitor Technician
Department: Nursing Services
Position Summary: Monitors the patient's cardiac rhythms on the Telemetry Unit.
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of hospital Monitor Technician Course.
Experience:
Acute care hospital experience.
Previous experience as a Monitor Technician preferred
Essential Functions of the Job:
Records and performs monitoring procedures as assigned.
Reports observations and any rhythm changes immediately to the responsible RN or Charge Nurse.
Recognizes and verifies all alarms promptly counts rhythm stripping as assigned and whenever a change in rhythm occurs.
Applies monitor leads to patient to obtain the best ECG signal.
Performs 12 lead EKG as requested.
Completes all monitor recording.
Enters patient data into the monitoring system correctly with patient medical record number included. Keeps an accurate written record of monitor rhythms on the shift.
Recognizes equipment inadequacies and promptly reports to the Charge Nurse and Biomedical for an equipment check.
Maintains proper par levels of the necessary batteries, electrodes, papers needed for around the clock monitoring.
Reports off duty to the Charge Nurse before leaving the nursing unit or to incoming monitor technician.
Establishes a good rapport and professional working relationship with all departmental personnel; maintains appropriate inter-departmental communications
Assumes responsibility for reading all posted minutes and memos.
Attends mandatory education classes as assigned.
