Job Overview
United Community Corporation (UCC) seeks an experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to support our new NJ Family Care program. Working directly under the supervision of the Director of Finance, the Specialist will collaborate closely with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and the Director of Finance to ensure accurate medical claims submission, efficient insurance verification, and timely reimbursement follow-up. This position also involves coordination with the Director of Finance and collaboration with the Newark Housing Authority, Clubhouse Community Center, and UCC’s emergency assistance and medical respite programs to streamline billing processes and enhance patient services.
Responsibilities
Review, code, and submit medical claims to insurance providers.
Verify patient insurance eligibility and coverage accurately.
Follow up on unpaid claims, resolve denials, and manage appeals.
Maintain precise and organized billing records.
Analyze medical documentation for accurate coding and claim submission.
Address inquiries from patients, staff, and insurance companies.
Regularly reconcile financial records and address discrepancies.
Uphold patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Collaborate directly with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and community partners for optimal patient care.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, preferably with pediatric insurance claims experience.
Extensive knowledge of medical billing practices, insurance guidelines, and medical terminology.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in online insurance verification and eligibility processes.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Commitment to confidentiality and strict adherence to HIPAA regulations.
Willingness to cross-train and undertake additional administrative tasks as needed.
